Abdullah Shafique’s inclusion in the team is thanks in part to Babar Azam, according to former bowler Shoaib Akhtar. In the ongoing World Cup 2023, Abdullah scored a great knock against Sri Lanka yesterday.
Akhtar thanked the decision to select Abdullah in the starting XI on Twitter after Pakistan successfully batted down the enormous total of 345 runs.
Said Akhtar, “What a star in the making, a brilliant 100, but credit goes to Babar Azam for selecting him first and believing in him to lead the open for the green caps.”
The Rawalpindi Express also praised the right-handed opener’s efforts in attempting to reach the record-breaking score, writing, “What a payback by Abdullah Shafique.”

Men in Green won their second game of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against Sri Lanka, which is crucial to note because it adds significant points.
The Green Shirts lost two quick wickets at just 37 runs while chasing the enormous 345-run total, but Abdullah and Rizwan enabled Pakistan to prevail.
The opening batsman, who was participating in his debut World Cup game, put together a critical partnership with Rizwan by scoring a great performance of 113 runs off 103 balls.
However, Rizwan continued to go unbroken, scoring a game-winning innings of 131 runs off 121 balls to aid his team in completing the complete chase with 10 balls remaining.
The Green Shirts’ next game is against their bitter rivals India, and it is set for October 14 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
