Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the current prime minister, has given his approval for the Sugar Advisory Board (SAB) to have the transferred by the Ministry of Industries & Production (MoI&P) from the Ministry of National Food Security & Research.
In August 2022, the Ministry of Food took the management of SAB through the Ministry of Industries and Production.
The federal minister from the applicable department or sector often acts as the head of the meeting. The Federal Minister for Industries and Production will now serve as the meeting’s chair, replacing the Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research.

The chairman of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, the president of the Kissan Board Pakistan, the president of the Chamber of Agriculture, and the president of the Kissan Association of Pakistan will all be members of the board along with the selections from each provincial government.
The SAB has the duty to provide guidance on sugar imports or exports while taking stock availability into account. The committee’s duty extends to establishing rules and regulations for the multiple commercial areas of the sugar processing sector.

The SAB may additionally counsel government agencies and other stakeholders on initiatives and programs that will help the sugar industry.
It is essential to keep in mind that SAB, headed by the previous Federal Minister for Food, had urged ECC to allow the international shipment of sugar, which resulted to a resulting rise in sugar prices.
