The National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) has a new chairman, Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar, thanks to a federal appointment.
His appointment was approved on Monday during a meeting of the federal cabinet presided over by Acting Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar.
The three top applicants for the position were announced to the cabinet by the selection committee. After careful deliberation, the cabinet confirmed Lieutenant General Muhammad Munir Afsar’s appointment as the next NADRA chairman. The Ministry of Interior subsequently published a notification of his appointment.
He succeeds Tariq Malik as chairman, who resigned in June citing a “charged and polarized political environment.” Asad Rehman Gilani took over the role in June.
The newly appointed NADRA chairman was given a promotion to Lieutenant General in October of last year, which is relevant to highlight at this time.
