Govt to Bring Ordinance for Setting Up Telecom Tribunal

The interim federal government is thinking about introducing an ordinance to create a telecom tribunal.

According to ProPakistani’s sources in the IT Ministry, the decision to establish the Telecom Tribunal was made as a result of the numerous telecom-related court issues that are now waiting.

According to sources, the interim administration wants to begin the 5G auction process. The 5G auction procedure cannot begin without the spectrum being available. To put a stop to the protracted lawsuit over the spectrum problem, the IT Ministry has suggested creating a Telecom Tribunal.

According to sources, the Telecommunication Reorganization Act of 1996 must be amended in order to create the Telecom Tribunal. The caretaker administration requested the Law Ministry’s view before considering an ordinance to establish a Telecom Tribunal. According to sources, an ordinance is the only option at this time since there isn’t a functioning National Assembly.

The federal government has been informed by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), according to sources, that a separate tribunal is required to handle the backlog of cases in the telecom industry.
